A few years ago, I attended a extraordinary performance at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia featuring The Philadelphia Orchestra. Concertmaster David Kim, Principal Cello Hai-Ye Ni, and conductor Donald Runnicles took the stage one more time for Brahms’s magical “Double” Concerto. Audience members have called this concert “wonderful,” “outstanding,” and “amazing” and it truly was. During the various movements of the classical pieces that were being played, my eyes started capturing every instrument that was being played.
Having directed and conducted many choirs, music teams, bands and even mini orchestras during my life, I know that every instrument is an important part of the orchestra. Indeed, there are beautiful and moving soloists, but there is something magical when all the instruments (whether minor or major) plays an important part in the sound of the orchestra. It creates a fuller sound, it simply feels complete. So how does this compare to our lives? How is our life an important part in this so called orchestra of life?
The Instrument of YOU
You see, the instrument of YOU is YOUR DREAMS, your talents, your aspirations. We all have them. Some of us go for our dreams and share our talents to the world, and some of us, due to fear - never go for our dreams. When this happens, the orchestra of life is not fully complete.
I know at times, our lives may seem insignificant or what we do doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things, but guess what? What you do MATTERS!
I remember when I was directing choirs and one person was missing from the choir. The sound was incomplete. Something was missing. Yes, we can "get by" with one person missing, but its not the same. In the same light, when you go for your dreams and share your talents with the world - it truly makes a difference (whether you know it of not). The Great Director desires to have each and every one of us participate in the orchestra of life.
Everyone brings a different talent, a different sound and when it all blends together – it is beautiful and magical.
Play Your Part in the Orchestra of Life
Whether you are a lead instrument or a supporting instrument in the orchestra of life, share your dreams and talents to the world. It truly makes a huge difference, because YOU are important in the Orchestra of Life.
Go for those dreams, share your talents, and be a part of the whole. Your life will become much more fulfilling. If you don't think your instrument matters, just listen to an orchestra and notice how every instrument put together with all the others makes a wonderful, beautiful and magical sound. And that is what truly happens when you play your instrument in the orchestra of life.
If you don't remember anything else from this blog post, remember that you are important in the orchestra of life - You truly matter!
